Marie Maxey Obituary

Marie Maxey, 82, went to be with her Lord on Sept. 14, 2024 after an extended illness.

Marie was born in June 5, 1942 to Freeman and Ailene Sherrill. She was a homemaker, and she also worked as a substitute teacher and a guide for George Dickel for a short time. She married Jerry Maxey and had three children. Marie was a talented artist. Many family members and friends have her paintings in their homes. Marie was known for her love for her family. She was a deeply compassionate and devoted woman who selflessly dedicated herself to her family. She uplifted those she loved, and inspired everyone around her to embrace life with passion and purpose. Her greatest joy was being “Nina” to her grandchildren and their children. Marie is preceded in death by her parents, Freeman and Ailene Sherrill; two sisters, Viola White and Bobbie Wilson; and one brother, Hank Jr. Sherrill.

She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Jerry Maxey; three children, Kelli Garner (Dale), Danny Maxey (Angie), and Brian Maxey; six grandchildren, Andrew Milam, Tyler Maxey, John Garner, Sara Case, Megan Clark, and Maddi Maxey; and great-grandchildren, Dahlia, Fayna, Henlee, Dawsyn, Millie, and Kolsen, and was looking forward to meeting Lucy- to be born in November.

Visitation for Marie will be held on Sunday, Sept, 29 from 1 – 3 p.m. at Kilgore Funeral Home. A memorial service will immediately follow at 3 p.m. in the Kilgore Funeral Home chapel with Patrick Milam officiating, Burial will follow at Rose Hill Memorial Gardens. For those who wish, the family asks that donations in Marie’s memory be made to Hospice Compassus- c/o Hospice of the Highland Rim Foundation, 101 Bragg Circle, Tullahoma, TN 37388.
