Tullahoma softball is back
GRAY DEYOSports Writer
The Tullahoma softball season is back in full swing. The Lady Wildcats have played five games so far and have a 1-5 record, and although it’s not the start to the season the squad wanted to have there is plenty of ball left to turn it around.
The Lady Wildcats’ four losses this season have come at the hands of South Pittsburg, Siegel, Coffee County, and most recently Lawrence County High School. The main thing that has led to the four losses for the ‘Cats is the amount of runs they are allowing. In three of their five losses, they allowed over 12 runs. If they can get that under control the starting tale of the season can flip in an instant. This team is talented and can compete, and they showed that in their win on Mar. 7 against Shelbyville Central, winning 14-4.
Tullahoma against the Lady Golden Eagles did most of their damage in the opening three innings where they scored 10 runs.
In the first inning, Avanley Metcalf drilled a line drive double into left field and scored in Madison Goad and Kaitlynn Gattis giving the Wildcats a 2-0 advantage.
Shelbyville answered back and scored two runs in the top of the second inning, but the Wildcats wiped their momentum away with four runs in the bottom of the second inning. Kylee Holt and Ellie Simpson both got RBIs to get the Lady Wildcats a 4-2 lead and Goad followed it with a bomb. Goad who went four for four hitting on the day got her second hit of the game in the second inning with a two-run home run to center field giving her team a four-run lead. Tullahoma scored two more unanswered runs in the third, which earned them a big enough cushion to halt any sort of Lady Golden Eagle comeback.
Amaya Sharp pitched the whole game for Tullahoma and racked in 10 strikeouts while allowing just six hits through six innings of pitching.
The Lady Wildcats will look to put together a similar performance from their lone win of the season in their next game on Mar. 13 against Marion County.
