Wildcats’ season ends in state semi-finals
GRAY DEYOSports Writer
Tullahoma baseball’s 2024-2025 season is officially over. The Wildcats lost to Munford High School 5-2 in the state semi-finals today.
The Wildcats were down early in this contest. They gave up two runs in the first and were fighting to get back in the remainder of the game. Munford piled on and grabbed three more runs in the third and fourth inning to take a commanding 5-1 lead.
The Wildcats stirred up a rally in the top of the fifth inning. They scored their second run off a ground ball single from senior Baylan Tuten. This brought Andrew Fulmer to the dish with two Wildcats standing opposite of each other on first and third base.
Fulmer was one swing away from tying the game.
The star senior worked a full count after being down 2-0 and sent a ball climbing into the sky in right field. The ball was hit well, it just had a touch of too much air under it to do any damage. The hit ball by Fulmer resulted in a fly out, ending the inning.
The Wildcats did not gain any further momentum in the sixth or seventh, as the opposing Cougars went on to clinch a spot in the state final.
It’s certainly not the way Tullahoma wanted to go out, but they have nothing to hang their heads about. They were not overwhelmingly outperformed by Munford. Both teams ended the day with seven hits each. The Cougars’ hits just happened to be timelier in potential scoring opportunities. This loss should not at all take away from what all the Wildcats accomplished this season.
They finished first in their district, won the regional title, ended the year with a record of 32-12, and made it to the state tournament for the second year in a row. A state title is always the ultimate goal for any high school baseball team, but it does not get much better than the season the Wildcats just had.
Thank you to all of the seniors for their four years of hard work, and for bringing so many memories and achievements to Tullahoma.
