Tornado confirmed at Coffee-Bedford line

The Greater Tullahoma area did not go unscathed by the Tuesday outbreak of severe weather as the National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado touched down briefly near the Coffee-Bedford County line.

The NWS survey crew is calling the twister an EF-0 which is the lowest on the Enhanced Fujita Scale. The NWS investigators estimate that peak winds reached 85 miles per hour and that the tornado was about 150 yards wide, traveling just a little over one miles before lifting.

The tornado was part of a large system of tornado warned storms that crossed the region during the afternoon and early evening hours Tuesday. Investigators put the tornado impact around the Shiloh area at the Coffee and Bedford line, noting the tornado was on the ground for about four minutes. Specifically, the touchdown happened around the Bedford Lake Road area, causing tree damage and then moved northeast where it did some damage to a farm near Hobbs Lane. The twister continued along 16th Model Road before lifting around Cunningham Lane. There were no injuries associated with the tornado.
