Tullahoma police warn of crypto scams

The Tullahoma Police Department is warning residents about a new cryptocurrency scam targeting the area.
In a statement released on social media, the police department said it wanted to make residents aware of a recent scam where scammers have been contacting people via phone calls, emails and text messages stating they need to make payments.
“In these cases, victims are told they owe a fine, have an outstanding warrant, blackmailing you with compromising photos or need to settle a debt — and are instructed to make a payment using cryptocurrency such as Bitcoin or other digital assets,” officials said.
The police department makes it clear that no government agency, law enforcement department or legitimate business will ever demand payment in cryptocurrency.
“These scams are designed to pressure and confuse you. The scammers often use official-sounding language and may even spoof phone numbers to make their messages seem legitimate.”
The police department advises if residents receive a suspicious call, text, or email—especially one demanding cryptocurrency— they are to not respond or send money. Instead, they are encouraged to contact the police directly before taking any action.
“It’s always better to confirm than to risk becoming a victim of fraud,” officials said. “Let’s work together to keep our community informed and protected.”
