The Rain

K

Have you ever sat on the porch and watched the rain fall? I would assume you have at some point in your life. I recently had a conversation with someone who willingly chose to take a walk in the rain just to feel God’s presence right in the midst of an internal storm they were battling. I imagine the tears that were falling down their face during our conversation were soon washed away by the rain as they began their journey home. When given the choice to stay in the comfort and shelter of the familiar, they boldly decided to step out on faith and hoped, if only for a moment, to feel God’s presence come down from the September sky.

In that moment I was reminded of Isaiah 55:10, “As the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return to it without watering the earth and making it bud and flourish, so that it yields seed for the sower and bread for the eater.” Just as the rain falls to the earth with a job to fulfill, we are to also not leave this earth void. The new life and new beginnings that are created by the watering of our hearts and souls create a testimony that is meant to be shared with others. Are you willing to step out in the rain and be watered even when life is hard? Do you listen to the nudges God sends along your path? Do you sow into others just to watch them flourish?

As I looked out my bedroom window at the rain falling this evening, I was reminded of the fresh anointing God sends to bring joy and hope in the midst of suffering. The individual I had just spoken with earlier in the day was in need of that fresh anointing just as much as myself. Our journeys through life were not the same but God’s divine intervention allowed our paths to cross if only for us to water each other in that moment. We are never too far gone, too far into grief, too far into anger or too far into depression that His fresh anointing can’t come down and bring us back to life! Just like the rain so freely falls so does God’s love, grace and mercy.

We must remember how imperative the rain is not only to wash us clean but to aid in our growth through our walk with Christ in every season. I encourage you to not just watch the rain this week – step out in it, look up and receive the fresh anointing God has stored up. You just never know who else may be standing in that same shower praying for something God has chosen YOU to water!

“Be glad, people of Zion, rejoice in the LORD your God, for he has given you the autumn rains because he is faithful. He sends you abundant showers, both autumn and spring rains, as before.” Joel 2:23

Blessings,

Kayla
