SJPAC swings to another Midsummer’s Night

South Jackson Performing Arts Center hosted another fun evening of lively big band music and dancing at their Midsummer’s Night Swing and Ice Cream Social. The South Jackson Street Band provided the music, playing swing hits and old favorites. Peggy Burton, Jerry Anderson, and Samantha Watters accompanied the band on vocals. La Monita, of downtown Tullahoma, provided the ice cream.
According to Executive Director Greg Gressel, this annual event first began June 6, 1991, making this year the 34th production. It has been billed in the past as an Ice Cream Social, but there has always been music and dancing involved.
The fun started off at 6 p.m. with lessons in swing dancing, and the music got underway at 7 p.m. A number of couples were up on the dance floor, and they appeared to have learned some smooth moves. Even the children were up dancing and having a great time. Prizes were given out for different dance styles, the friendly competition only serving to make the dancing even more fun.
The music was upbeat and fun, the dancing was lively, and the ice cream was delicious. All made for an enjoyable family evening. Here’s looking forward to year 35 next summer.
