The city of Tullahoma has proclaimed Oct. 5-11 to be Public Power Week which is a week-long celebration to Tullahoma Utilities Authority’s year-round service to the area.
“Whereas, we, the citizens of Tullahoma, place a high value on local control over community services and therefore have chosen to operate a community-owned, locally controlled, not-for-profit electric utility and as customers and owners of our electric utility, have a direct say in the utility operations and policies,” Mayor Lynn Sebourn read from the proclamation during the recent board of mayor and aldermen meeting, referring to the TUA’s stewardship, reliability, customer service and energy efficiency. “Be it further resolved that the week of Oct. 5-11 be designated the 39th annual Public Power Week in honor of TUA for its contributions to the community and to make its customer-owners, policy makers, and employees more award of tis contributions to their well-being and how it makes their lives powerful.”
TUA will join with 2,000 other public power systems across the country in the celebration.
TUA purchases all its power from the TVA. They then share the power through three substations to their 11,500 customers. Bradley Zill of TUA pointed out that they are always updating while also having some of the lowest rates in the state.
“When the lights are out, we are there,” he said regarding TUA’s service to the community. “I think that’s something we take for granted. No matter the situation, our guys leave their families to go make sure the power is on for everybody.”
He invited the community to come to the TUA campus from on Wednesday, Oct. 1 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. “We will celebrate public power and we want the public to come celebrate with us too,” he said.
There will be food and drinks and demonstrations.
