Fuel leak prompts Airpark Drive closure

Airpark Drive has been temporarily closed off due to a fuel leak at the airport.

In a statement to Tullahoma News, Community Engagement Officer Lyle Russell said emergency crews responded to a fuel leak at Tullahoma Municipal Airport on Wednesday evening.

“A fuel leak was detected at Tullahoma Municipal Airport late in the evening on Wednesday, Oct. 29. Airport staff and emergency crews were on scene within minutes, including Tullahoma Fire, Safety & Codes Fire Marshal, and the Coffee County Emergency Management Agency. Containment procedures started immediately and were successful. There is no danger to the public.”

Russell added that Airpark Drive, adjacent to the airport, will be temporarily closed out of an abundance of caution for further spill mitigation efforts.

Officials would follow up with an update about the road closure later in the evening.

“As our environmental contractor performs the remaining mitigation and clean-up efforts, parts of Airpark Drive will temporarily remain closed through the weekend, allowing equipment to be brought in and out to complete the tasks,” officials said in a statement. “Please follow all posted signage and drive safely while the crews complete their work.”
