City officials have announced that the intersection at Wilson Avenue and First Avenue will be closed on March 31 and April 1 due to construction.

In a statement shared on the city’s Facebook page, construction with the sewer line will start at 6 a.m. Tuesday, March 31 through Wednesday, April 1.

“Crews will be performing sewer line work at the intersection of Wilson Avenue and First Avenue,” city officials said. “Traffic flaggers will be on site.”

Citizens should expect the following during this time period:

– First Avenue will be closed on both sides of its intersection with Wilson Avenue

– Access remains available from Cedar Lane

– Significant delays expected on Hwy 55 to/from Lynchburg

– Morning and afternoon school and commuter traffic will be impacted

“Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and avoid the area, when possible,” city officials said. “Work begins at 6 a.m. and both lanes will be restored upon completion.”
