About Karla Harris
A Jazz-Week charting artist and 2025 Jazz Hero Award recipient, Karla Harris is a force on stage and in the studio. From a prestigious Jazz Road Award tour and national jazz festivals to a TEDx spot and university residencies, her performances pulse with authenticity and elegance. Her music draws from straight-ahead jazz, R&B, Latin, and pop — honoring tradition while embracing originality. Harris has been a mainstage performer for the Atlanta Jazz Festival, the Donald Nixon Performing Arts Center, the Callanwolde Jazz series, the Lawrenceville Arts Center, and Falany Performing Arts Center. She has performed for the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in collaboration with Neranenah in a concert series presented as part of the Arts Across America live performance series. Karla also was honored to be selected for a highly coveted Jazz Road summer tour in North Carolina and South Carolina, underwritten by a grant through the South Arts Foundation. Capping off this list of distinguished engagements are performances at the Touhill Center in St. Louis, Siletz Bay Music Festival, Boca Grande Jazz series in Florida, Beaucoup Roswell Jazz and Blues Festival and the Oregon Coast Jazz Party with Monty Alexander, John Clayton, Terrell Stafford, and Lewis Nash.
Moving through 2026, Harris continues to gather national recognition for a voice described by reviewers as “beautiful, powerful yet versatile” and the artist herself as “a fearless improviser.” Two new recordings promise to build her reputation as a songwriter and arranger. “Merge”, released in July 2025, includes originals as well as dynamic arrangements of several jazz and pop classics. An additional new album, scheduled for late 2026, includes all-original songs written by Karla and bassist-composer Tom Kennedy, and features special guests Randy Brecker, John Pizzarelli and Dave Weckl.
