The inaugural Dig Day on 41A, presented by Christopher Equipment and the Highland Rim Kiwanis Club, will be held Saturday, offering children from the community an up-close look at some big machinery ranging from cranes and land movers to helicopters and fire department vehicles. The event is free to the public thanks to generous sponsorships by several local businesses and individuals.

The fun gets underway Saturday at 9 a.m. and will go until 5 p.m. Those attending the event are asked to park at the extended parking lot at Lowe’s. Shuttles will be provided for transport to the show grounds. Should the weather be severe, the event will fall back to its rain day, which is Sunday, Sept. 20, from 1-6 p.m.

This free event gives children the opportunity to see, touch, and explore their favorite pieces of construction equipment up close. From big trucks to heavy machinery, it’s a hands-on experience they won’t forget. The event is located at 107 Ledford Mill Road just off North Jackson Street next to Lowe’s. The first few hundred children to show up will be given an event vest and replica hardhat. Those will be available until supply is exhausted. Organizers warn there will be loud sounds, such as horns and engines, so parents should consider bringing ear protection for children with sensitive ears.

Dig Day on 41A was the brainchild of local businessman, Kiwanian and philanthropist Max Christopher. He brought the plan up to the club in March, and it was full steam ahead to make his dream a reality. Club member Allison Roe said it is events like Dig Day that make her proud to be part of Kiwanis.

“Here we are less than two weeks away from making it a reality. That is what I like about being part of Kiwanis of Highland Rim. Being part of a small group of people and making things happen with a positive impact on the children and families of our community,” she said. “When my husband and I first moved here, I looked for something to get involved with, a place to volunteer. I found Kiwanis! Through Kiwanis, I have learned more about Tullahoma. Have seen how good people make a difference in many lives. Dig Day on 41A has had some amazing people and businesses come forward and give. We appreciate their donations and the support they give to us and our community.”
