The city of Tullahoma has announced its fall paving schedule which will upgrade 6.72 miles of streets.

The fall initiative will cost around $1.45 million, according to Public Works Director Eric Pierce, who noted that last year the paving came in under budget. “If it does like it did last year, we will just jump to a couple of more streets on the next list,” he told the board of mayor and aldermen during their recent meeting. “That also leaves us a little money for our striping list if everything goes as planned.”

Pierce said the paving list comes after he and four other city employees drive around the city to observe what areas are in most need of upgrades. “Then we have to make sure the money fits the list that is given us,” he said of how streets make it to the paving list.

Pierce added that it is not just paving that needs to be considered but also the milling of the streets and striping after the paving is done.

Alderman Busch Thoma said he hopes the list is circulated far and wide as he said one of the most prevalent questions he gets is about street paving and how the determination is made as to which streets to pave each season.
