Trump not Christian

I feel a need to explain myself briefly. Some who read my letters to the editor may believe I hate the President or have ‘Trump derangement syndrome’. I do not hate him; I pray for him. I do hate much of what he stands for and how he and others represent him to the public. I understand it may be hard for some people to separate those concepts.

He is often presented, and presents himself, to the world as the new ‘savior’ of Christianity and/or is compared to Jesus Christ. At least two well-known pastor/evangelists have repeatedly called him the greatest defender of Christianity of all presidents and said not a word when ‘Prosperity Gospel’ preacher Paula White directly compared him to Jesus Christ.

Is Donald Trump a Christian? By his own words he has never asked God for forgiveness because he doesn’t know anything he has done for which he needs forgiveness (Romans 3:23). His ego exceeds that of anyone I have ever known (1 Peter 5:5). Jesus told his followers to deny themselves and follow him (Luke 9:23). From his own words, to whom does Trump look for guidance? Trump recently admitted that he doesn’t think anything will get him into heaven, as he checks his goodworks/badworks spreadsheet. So, he apparently knows nothing about gaining heaven by faith and that our works have absolutely nothing to do with it (Ephesian 5:8-10). I could continue, but I leave it to you to explore further.

Do these facts matter? Would you call your local heart surgeon to tell you how to install a new car engine? Or your mechanic to repair your defective heart valve. No non-Christian can effectively lead my faith when he doesn’t understand anything my faith entails. Trump, by his own words, does not.

All Christians: read Matthew 24:23-24. How does the world see your faith when it is put into practice?
