Lady ‘Cats snap the streak

The streak is over. For the first time since 2018, the Tullahoma High School softball team won against Coffee County Central High School. They defeated the Lady Red Raiders 1-0, snapping a 14-game losing streak against them.

Leading the charge in the monumental win for Tullahoma was sophomore Avanley Metcalf. The second year Lady Wildcat pitched all seven innings for THS, and had the Lady Red Raiders in a blender in their at-bats all afternoon. Metcalf allowed just three hits and had a total of eight strikeouts. Coffee County also had high-level pitching in the matchup, but the Lady Wildcats were able to muster together a few strong at-bats in the bottom of the seventh to get the lone run of the game.

In the bottom of the seventh inning, the ‘Cats had nobody on base with two outs. With the likelihood of extra innings looming, a trio of senior Lady Wildcats came up clutch: Amaya Sharp, Maggie Lynch, and Addyson Norman.

Sharp opened up the two-out rally with a single hit near Coffee County’s pitcher. Lynch then followed up Sharp’s single with one of her own in the Lady Wildcats next at-bat. She hit the first pitch she saw at the plate and sent a blistering ground ball to center field. With Sharp advancing into scoring position at second base for Tullahoma, Norman stepped up to the plate for a chance to deliver a walk-off win. She did not disappoint.

Norman worked a 1-0 count, attacked the second pitch in her at-bat, and sent another hard ground ball through center field. Sharp rushed around third base, touched home base, which officially stamped the Lady Wildcats’ win over Coffee County at 1-0.

The Lady Wildcats, with the victory, now have an overall record of 10-12 on the season. Their next game will be on Monday, April 20, in an out-of-district matchup against South Pittsburgh High School. Their next district game will be on April 21 against Marshall County High School. The Lady Wildcats played the Lady Tigers earlier this season on April 10 and lost by a score of 6-3.
