Empty Vessels

Are you at a place today where you feel as though your vessel is empty? Are you running on empty trying to be everything to everyone? In 2 Kings chapter 4 there is a miracle that happens for a widow woman and her two children behind closed doors. A miracle of endless oil flowing to fill up every empty vessel she had. A miracle that not only allowed this woman to save her precious children but blessed her family for years to come! In these 7 short verses you will see that by her obedience, diligence and faith she was able to pour out all the miracles God had in store for her through her emptiness.

The prophet Elisha asks her, what do you have in this house you could sell to pay off your debt? The widow woman replied, all I have is this little bit of oil. There are so many times we think we don’t have what it takes to please God and to do His Kingdom work, but if we would just surrender our talents and gifts to God’s calling, He can turn them into mighty works. Elisha then told her to go to all her neighbors and ask for empty jars. As you can see this was an action that she must do on her part to see the miracle. I know you are tired friend, but there is still work that must be done to see the victory and miracles come to pass. Once the oil started flowing it didn’t stop until the last vessel she gathered was full. How much of yourself are you willing to surrender to Him? We can’t pour into others with empty vessels ourselves. We must be filled up over and over again on this journey, but if we don’t surrender the messy, ugly and tough things to God He can’t fill you up with all the good that you’ve inherited as a believer. The most amazing thing about this story to me is what God can do through our emptiness! Sometimes that lonely, scary, dark place of emptiness is exactly where God needs us to be so that we learn to solely depend on Him.

I encourage you to read this story this week and see what Gods reveals to you. Here are a few things to ponder: 1. What is the significance of the oil? 2. Why did Elisha ask her to go to her community for help?

3.

Why was this miracle done behind closed doors?

Maybe it is time for you to go behind that closed door and allow God to fill up all your empty vessels. It is time for those things of the past that used to fill those voids such as hurt, anger, abuse and doubt to be poured out and renewed with the oil of the One who wants your future to be overflowing with abundance!

“But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.” 2 Timothy: 20-21 Blessings, Kayla
