The Tullahoma Softball team is back in action, and they wasted no time in lighting up scoreboards. They won each of their first two contests, defeating South Pittsburgh High School 22-7 and Siegel High School 12-8.
South Pittsburgh
The Lady Wildcats’ offensive output in the opening four innings in their 22 run performance against South Pittsburgh was consistent. Through these four offensive frames, they logged two or more runs. But the real damage they did against the opposing Pirates pitchers was in the last inning of the game, the bottom of the seventh.
In this frame alone, Tullahoma racked up 11 runs and several extra-base hits. The offensive explosion for the ‘Cats was highlighted by a home run shot to left field by senior Kaitlynn Gattis.
In the season opener, Gattis was one of four Lady Wildcats’ players with three or more hits, as she went 3-6 for the game. The other three players were Metcalf (4-6), senior Addye Norman (4-6), and Ellie Simpson (3-4 with a walk).
Siegel
The Lady Wildcats’ offense slowed down comparatively to their 22-run outing in their second game of the season, but the 12 runs they put up against Siegel were still substantial.
The bulk of the Cats’ production against Siegel came in the opening two innings. They needed it too, with the opposing Stars putting up five runs in the top of the second. The Lady Wildcats were able to parry this big number with four runs, following their own five run in the inning in the bottom of the first.
Two of the biggest individual offensive performers in this stretch that helped the Lady Wildcats keep a notable lead were sophomore Kayleigh Campbell and senior Simpson. In the bottom of the first, Campbell blasted a base-clearing double to center field that scored three runs, which at the time gave Tullahoma a 5-0 lead. Simpson in the second inning also had a base-clearing double, which was also hit to center field, scoring three runs, which gave the ‘Cats a 9-5 lead.
Junior Anzley Holloway and senior Margaret Lynch were also good offensive weapons for THS against Siegel, in just getting on base. Lynch went 0-1 from the plate but drew three walks and accounted for two runs. Holloway went 1-2 from the plate, also had three walks, and accounted for a game-high three runs.
