Jack Johnson Amos Obituary
On July 3, 2025, Jack Johnson Amos departed from this life at the age of 79 surrounded by close members of his family.
Born on Dec. 7, 1945 in Manchester to Henry Grady and Otsie Hill Amos, Jack was the youngest of 17 children. (Henry Grady was born in 1888) He married his late wife, Patricia Raines in December of 1973 and had three children together, Carla (Tim) Michael, Kristy (Jeff) Ricco and Jack ‘Grady’ Amos whom he is survived by. Jack worked and later retired from the Moore County Highway Dept. To those who knew him in the community, he was known as Jack but to his family, he was known as Poppa. He taught his family the importance of hard work and loved spending his time outdoors tending to his garden and his animals.
He was a jokester, always with a twinkle in his eye ready to tell another funny story to make everyone laugh. His family loved to tease that he had the best hearing in the family, even when they tried to whisper. He loved good food, classic country music and old cartoons such as Shrek. As a grandparent, Jack bonded with his grandchildren over movies, music and classic automobiles. He had a wood burning cook stove that he loved having his family gather around every Christmas Eve morning, filling the room with his contagious laughter. Jack loved people and always made close connections all throughout his life. He could go anywhere and make a friend. He loved his grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He spoke often of his close relationship with his brother- in -law, Lanny Gilliam.
You will be missed Poppa, we all love you very much. In addition to his three children, he is survived by his grandchildren: Cassie (Stephen) Welsh, Cody (Elizabeth) Michael, CJ (Sydney) Laster, Christina (Galen) Laster and Alijah Amos as well as great grandchildren and one great-great-grand daughter.
He will be interred at the New Blanton’s Chapel Cemetery in Manchester.
