What do you have to lose when you knowingly commit a sin after being giving insight to the truth? This may sound like a trick question or even a harsh question to some, but after studying the book of Deuteronomy today God laid it on my heart to examine the text. What do we lose when we choose not to follow the commandments, statutes and judgements put forth by God? The answer is simple, everything. “ Take heed to yourselves, lest your heart be deceived, and you turn aside and serve other gods and worship them, And then the Lord’s wrath be kindled against you, and he shut up the heaven, that there be no rain, and that the land yield not her fruit; and lest ye perish quickly from off the good land which the Lord giveth you.” Deuteronomy 11:16-17.

After breaking the first set of tablets which included the Ten Commandments due to his anger and frustration with his people, God instructed Moses to once again hew the tablets. These commandments were not just written “rules” etched into the harden stone, but they were God’s great acts of love etched into the hands of eternity and the hearts of everyone who believes in Him. It was a second chance for the Israelites to turn from their idol worship and self-pity and see for themselves the merciful God who had been guiding them the entire journey. Moses knew he would not be with his people much longer and took extra time to emphasize the importance of keeping the commandments – an insight to the heavenly realm others had never seen. “ Therefore shall ye keep all the commandments which I command you this day, that ye may be strong, and go in and possess the land, whither ye go to possess it; And that ye may prolong your days in the land, which the LORD sware unto your fathers to give unto them and to their seed, a land that floweth with milk and honey.” Deuteronomy 11:8-9.

If you are reading this today and feel distant from that land of milk and honey, I encourage you to get back in God’s word. The greatest commandment we are given is to love the Lord our God with all our hearts – this begins with seeing and hearing the infallible truth and creating a relationship with Him. The truth will not only set you free from this dry, dark and sinful place but it will bring about a new spirit of peace that cannot be found but through the insightful nature of our Father. There is too much at stake to not take His word seriously and hearken the commandments. “ Therefore, shall ye lay up these my words in your heart and in your soul, and bind them for a sign upon your hand, that they may be as frontlets between your eyes.” Deuteronomy 11:18. It is imperative that you pass this knowledge onto your children and your children’s children so that they too understand that wickedness, deceitfulness and knowingly committing sin allowed by the world does not align with the truth of those words etched in stone. “ And ye shall teach them your children, speaking of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, when thou liest down, and when thou risest up.”

Deuteronomy 11:19.

You can make the choice to not share all the great acts of God with others, keep your ears and eyes covered from all the evil in this world or you can remain steadfast in keeping the commandments and statues by sharing with others and carrying them out in your daily walk. I choose love – I choose kindness – I choose joy – I choose peace- I choose harvest – I choose selflessness – I choose God. If you too choose God today, then walk boldly into the land in which God has called of you and share all of your insight just as Moses.

“A land which the LORD thy God careth for: the eyes of the LORD thy God are always upon it, from the beginning of the year even unto the end of the year.” Deuteronomy 11:12.
