AEDC at 75: Test facility development proceeds

A model of the B-58 Hustler, the Air Force’s first operational supersonic bomber, is tested in the Propulsion Wind Tunnel 16-foot transonic wind tunnel of what was then known as Arnold Engineering Development Center in 1957. Planning for PWT began in January 1950 when representatives from the aircraft propulsion industry met with the Air Force Research and Development Board on Facilities. The funding program for the facility was issued the following year. Arnold Engineering Development Center is now known as Arnold Engineering Development Complex, headquartered at Arnold Air Force Base.
