Susan Marie Miller Gross

Susan Marie Miller Gross peacefully passed from this life to the next on the morning of Monday, March 9, 2026. She was born to Gale and Emma Miller in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan, and spent her childhood years in Michigan and Florida. In 1977, she moved with her family to Middle Tennessee and lived many happy years in the area she found so very beautiful.
She graduated from Lake Worth High School in 1960. She graduated from Palm Beach Junior College in 1962. She went on to earn her Bachelor of Arts in Education from the University of Florida.
She married the love of her life, Richard Gross, in 1963. They raised two daughters, Julie and Paula. They shared the joy of grandchildren in Harrison and Emerson. They were blessed with a great granddaughter, Tzipporah.
Susan enjoyed teaching elementary school in Florida and Tennessee. She spent most of her career at Jack T. Farrar Elementary in Tullahoma. She loved her colleagues. She particularly enjoyed reading aloud to her students. One longtime favorite was Charlotte’s Web.
Susan was also an accomplished homemaker, with particular skills in sewing and baking. Many family celebrations were finished off with a magnificent cake or pie. She helped lead the quilting ministry at Trinity Lutheran Church for many years. She was so gratified being able to help send quilts made with love to comfort and warm people around the world.
Susan liked to garden and bird watch. She loved animals, particularly the family dogs through the years. She and her husband traveled to beautiful spots around the country to hike and enjoy their love of the natural world together.
She has said her greatest joy was serving others as a daughter, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and active member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Susan is proceeded in death by her parents, Gale and Emma, a brother, Gale, a sister, Patricia, and her husband of 61 years, Richard H. Gross. She is survived by 2 daughters, Julie and Paula (Alan Peoples), 2 grandchildren, Harrison and Emerson, and a great granddaughter, Tzipporah.
