Vape stores put on notice

Local stores that sell vapes and CBD have been put on notice that law enforcement will be checking up on them to ensure they are not selling to minors.
Coffee County Sheriff’s Department in its public warning said that area law enforcement agencies will conduct upcoming “sweeps” of all stores that sale vaping and CBD products.
The warning said that area schools are seeing an increased amount of vaping products and that the citations that have been issued to certain stores have not helped to reduce the amount of sales to minors.
The sheriff’s department, Manchester Police and Tullahoma Police will fully enforce all criminal laws going forward, according to the statement.
“Law enforcement has issued citations to employees of certain stores for sale of vapes and other products to our children to no avail and we are tired of seeing this continue inside our community,” the announcement signed by Sheriff Chad Partin, Manchester Police Chief Adam Floied and Tullahoma Police Chief Chase Sons reads.
The announcement specifically cites the law as it pertains to Contributing to the Delinquency of a minor and Prohibited Purchase or Possession by Underage Persons. The crimes are Class A misdemeanors which are punishable by up to 11-months, 29-days in jail. The warning also suggests lawmen are ready to put those who caught selling to minors in jail rather than just issuing a fine.
“Store owners, please speak with your employees about this and explain the seriousness of this,” the release reads, noting parents should also talk to their children about the health dangers of the products.
