Lady Wildcats fall to sixth place in district

The Tullahoma High School softball team recently picked up back-to-back losses, losing against Lawrence County High School 18-8 and Huntland High School 13-2.

Lawrence County High School

The Lady Wildcats, against the opposing Lady Cats of Lawrence County, went on to allow the most runs they have all season, 18. Despite the solid eight runs they were able to generate, they could not figure out a way to slow down the offensive talent of Lawrence, as they generated a total of 15 hits.

Doing the majority of the damage on the scoreboard for Lawrence County were two of their upperclassmen, senior Audrie Lovell and junior Callie Brown. The two combined for nine RBIS, with Brown going 3-5 from the plate and Lovell going 3-4.

The big offensive performers on the Lady Wildcats’ side were senior Kaitlynn Gattis and sophomore Avanley Metcalf. Gattis led the ‘Cats in hits, going 3-4 from the plate, and Metcalf led the RBI category with three for THS.

Metcalf’s RBIS were all generated in the sixth inning from one hit. Metcalf drew a 3-1 count, forcing Lawrence’s pitcher to give her an ideal pitch in the zone, and the sophomore standout for THS destroyed it. She sent the ball flying over the centerfield fence, as she hit her fourth home run of the 2026 season. Within the following frame, Tullahoma generated six of its eight runs in the game. They scored their other three runs from an error and a one-run RBI single from senior Addie Norman.

Huntland High School

Against Huntland High School, THS’ defense struggled once again. Through four innings, the opposing Hornets scored in every single frame. This included the opening two frames where Huntland scored a combined eight runs, getting four runs each in the bottom of the first and second inning.

In the shortened five-inning bout, due to the mercy rule, Tullahoma had two main contributors on offense, sophomore Kayleigh Campbell and junior Miaha Johnson. The two Lady Wildcats were responsible for three out of four of Tullahoma’s hits in the game; Johnson had two, and Campbell had one. They were also both responsible for the two runs the ‘Cats put up on the scoreboard in their 13-2 loss.

At the top of the first, Campbell got her RBI from a line drive single to center field, scoring in sophomore Kaylee Bartlett. Johnson, in the third, got her RBI in a similar fashion, slashing a single to center field and scoring in Campbell.

With the two losses to Huntland and Lawrence, Tullahoma now has an overall record of 6-8 and has a 2- 3 record in its district, placing them in sixth place in their district standings.
