Volunteer wins city paving job

Volunteer Paving of Shelbyville has won the city’s paving contract as they were low bidder in a recent round of competition to serve Tullahoma’s paving needs.
They will get three years with three, one-year renewals as long as the price stays the same.
“Since you raised the paving budget to $1.5 million, we had three qualified bidders,” Eric Pierce, Public Works Director told the board of mayor and aldermen. “That bid is $3.50 less a ton than what we are currently paying, that equates to approximately $53,000 in a year.”
The end result, Pierce said, is that it will get “another street or two” paved for the same price.
Pierce pointed out that Volunteer has also gotten a state contract that will have local impact as they will be paving from the Viaduct out to Rose Hill Cemetery which is over four miles.
“They’re going to start that soon,” he revealed.
