Juneteenth celebration set for Friday

The city of Tullahoma is inviting residents to celebrate Juneteenth on Friday, June 19, at Jefferson Street Park for its Juneteenth Celebration event.

“Bring your family, friends, lawn chairs, and community spirit as we come together to honor the history, achievements, and culture celebrated through Juneteenth,” city officials said in their announcement.

The event is will go from noon to 6:30 p.m., with the program starting with guest speakers and the announcement of the Focus & Follow Through Scholarship. Then, the live music and entertainment will follow with Shorter Chapel Choir performing from 1 to 1:30 p.m., Sernobia McGee & Friends from 1:30 to 2 p.m., the Hamilton Brothers from 2:30 to 4 p.m. and Utopia from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.

Other than the live performances, the celebration will also feature other family-friendly activities, food trucks, bouncy houses and community fellowship. The event is free and opened to the public.

According to organizer JT Northcutt, the celebration will be held under a tent at Jefferson Street Park, located at 814 S. Jefferson St., and in the case of rain, the event will be moved to C.D. Stamps Community Center, located at 810 S. Jackson St.

The Juneteenth Celebration event is sponsored by J.A. Walton & Son Funeral Home, Motlow State Community College, Tullahoma Parks and Recreation, the city of Tullahoma, TUA LightTube, Vanderbilt Health and Utopia.
