Sow to Grow

Have you ever been at a place in life where you feel stagnant? You don’t see change, don’t feel growth and maybe you have given up hope on that dream. You are not alone and believe it or not, there is an answer that you may have not considered.

“Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall men give into your bosom. For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.” Luke 6:37-38.

The movement in your life that you may be seeking could be tied up in your failure to act in obedience. The verse above clearly states what God expects of us, but please understand that it’s not just referring to monetary giving. This verse is a beautiful example of how Jesus teaches us to treat others and the spiritual law of action and reaction. If you had a jar and you were to pour water into it over and over again, it would eventually overflow with water. Imagine that water being a spouse, a child, a co-worker, a friend or even an enemy. If you continuously pour out forgiveness, grace and blessings then in due time those humbling seeds of Jesus will be given unto you. God has recently convicted me about the alignment of tithing monetarily, but through this journey I have been flooded with the desire to understand the role we are trusted with in the sowing process. I believe it is imperative to sow monetarily because I’ve personally witnessed the ebb and flow of that obedience, but the works we will be judged upon will come from the seeds we sow into others. Are your prayers, dreams, desires and wants being held up because of your actions and reactions?

It is a tough thought to ingest, but we must be aware of those barriers that we have caused ourselves and even others. “ Let us not therefore judge one another any more: but judge this rather, that no man put a stumblingblock or an occasion to fall in his brother’s way.” Romans 14:13. Our motivation to give unto others should not be determined by the assumption of their reaction. Our motivation to give monetarily should also not be determined by the fear of deficiency. The desire to give in this life shouldn’t come from our own selfish consideration, but from a place deep within your spirit that longs to be more like Jesus. A place that can become consumed with the customs of man, but still flickers in the darkness yearning to start a fire. I challenge you to sow richly into those around you this week – a smile returns a smile, a kind word returns a kind word, a prayer returns a prayer.

I also encourage you to just drop the expectations you have for others – their reaction to your kindness is not the conclusion. Your kindness, forgiveness, release and grace are the keys to opening a door in your life. It may not happen immediately, next week or next year, but you can rest assured that God sees your heart and will reward you for your obedience to building His Kingdom one seed at a time. A harvest doesn’t happen overnight….you must sow to grow!

“And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.” Galatians 6:9.
