Lady Wildcats get back to their winning ways

After dropping five games in a row, the Lady Wildcats Softball team has now won two of its last three. They recently defeated Central Magnet High School 16-0 and Grundy County 11-1.
Central Magnet
The Lady Wildcats’ game against Central Magnet on April 7 was their second meeting against the district foe in 2026. Similar to their first matchup in the second of two bouts against Magnet, Tullahoma scored double-digit runs, held Central to three or fewer runs, and got the win.
In the following game, the Lady Wildcats took hold of the matchup early. They scored all 16 of their runs in the first two innings.
A couple of standout players for the ‘Cats in this rapid run production were seniors Ellie Simpson and Kaitlynn Gattis. Both of the fourth-year THS players were tied for the most hits of any player in the contest, both going 3-4 from the plate. Gattis also led the game in RBIs with four.
Tullahoma, in the shortened three-inning game, also had some elite pitching. Senior Amaya Sharp pitched all three innings for the Lady Wildcats and allowed just one hit. Sharp, out of the 12 batters she faced through the quick contest, struck out five.
Grundy County
With the combination of their offense and defense playing well at the same time, once again, the Lady Wildcats against Grundy County forced another shortened contest. They scored double digits again, with eight of their runs coming in the top of the third inning.
The main contributor to another big offensive bout for the ‘Cats was senior Addyson Norman. She had the most hits out of any THS player, going 3-4 from the plate, and was tied for the most RBIs in the game with two. All of her RBIs came in the top of the third, where she hit a line driver laser to center field, scoring in senior Anzley Holloway and junior Dilyn Gimmanco.
One of the most impressive performances the Lady Wildcats have had in all of the 2026 season took place in this game, and it happened on the mound.
Sophomore starting pitcher for the Lady Wildcats, Avanley Metcalf, was dominant against Grundy. She allowed one hit, one run, and through the 17 batters she faced, she struck out 11 of them, equating to a 64.7% strikeout percentage.
The Lady Wildcats now have an overall record of 8-11 and a 2-4 district record, slotting them in the fifth spot in their district standings. They will have an opportunity to help improve their district tournament outlook with a district game taking place this week against Giles County High School on April 16. Tullahoma has already played Giles once earlier in the season and lost by a score of 2-0. The opposing Lady Bobcats are currently fourth in the district standings with a record of 2-4.
