Final showing of ‘1776’ at South Jackson

Audiences have one final opportunity to experience the Tony Award winning musical “ 1776′ as South Jackson Community Playhouse concludes its acclaimed production this weekend at the South Jackson Performing Arts Center.

Presented as part of the community’s participation in the America 250 commemoration, “1776” brings to life tire dramatic and often humorous events surrounding the signing of the Declaration of Independence. The musical follows John Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, and the delegates of the Continental Congress as they debate, negotiate, and ultimately unite to forge a new nation. Originally premiering on Broadway in 1969, “1776” won the Tony Award for Bast Musical and remains one of America’s most beloved historical productions.

Under the direction of Greg Gressel, the production features a talented local cast, memorable musical numbers, and a powerful story that explores the challenges, compromises, and courage required to achieve independence. With the nation preparing to celebrate the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026, die themes of “1776” resonate as strongly today as ever.
